Review: Shutt Velo Rapide Elite Jersey

Thanks to its mesh back and side panels, the Shutt Velo Rapide Elite jersey is a great choice when the temperature starts to rise. It’s also comfortable, but at £ 110 it is a bit steep compared to some of the competition.

  • Advantages: Breathable fabrics, quality workmanship
  • The inconvenients: White signs quickly get dirty, expensive

The sun has been out for over a week here as I write the review, and with temperatures hovering around 18-25C the Elite jersey has been used a lot.

Shutt VR has used a combination of materials from Miti Spa, one of the industry’s most reputable fabric developers, and it gives the swimsuit a premium feel and performance.

Around the front and on the shoulders, the smooth material is very stretchy for freedom of movement and its softness against the skin is one of the best I have ever worn. It provides a little barrier against a cool breeze, which makes the Elite ideal if you start a ride early in the morning or end up late at night, but when the sun is out it doesn’t hurt to keep you cool. .

This is aided by the back and side panels which are made from a wide section mesh type fabric. It really lets heat and humidity escape, especially since the wind blows your back when you’re on land.

As a jersey it’s not as cool as an all-mesh design like Castelli’s Aero Race 5.1 Jersey FZ, but like I said it’s a good compromise if the temperature drops to mid-range. -journey.

Around the front you get a full zipper, but oddly enough no zip garage at the neck. I had no irritation, but part of it could be from a fairly high neckline.

The tail fell off the back, but not as much as some jerseys I’ve tested, and it’s held in place by a silicone clip that runs along the back. It gets the job done and I never found the Elite going up.

The Shutt VR comes with three traditional pockets that use a material heavier than the mesh they are attached to. They’re sturdy enough to carry a multi-tool or phone without sagging, and they’re deep enough to keep everything safe.

The sizing is quite generous compared to the Shutt website. I was given this medium because it’s the size I take in most brands and it was great: a fitted fit, racing style, without excess material or restriction, even if I found the sleeves a little more spacious than I’m used to. Shutt’s size guide, however, offers me a size large or even extra large, so if you want a slim fit like the jersey deserves, take a size down.

As usual at Shutt VR, the Elite is a quality garment of very good quality. All the seams are neat and tidy, and I love the addition of the clear soft plastic tag inside – no chance of irritation.

You pay it at £ 110 though. The Castelli Aero I mentioned costs £ 100, as does the excellent Morvelo EFX Nth Series. Another thorn in its side is the Craft Monument jersey, which has many of the same features but costs £ 85.

Overall, I really like the Elite for its performance, but if it was my own money I would shop around.

I would say the size chart on the Shutt VR website is a bit offbeat. He places me between L and XL but the midrange looks good on me, and if I had been taller I wouldn’t have had the slim fit.

Is the product easy to maintain? How did he react to washing?

With the jersey being mostly white, I was worried about getting stained, especially on wet and muddy roads, but had no issues. However, it gets dirty quickly and you will wash it after every ride.

Overall the Shutt VR is a great jersey for riding on hot to hot summer days thanks to excellent breathability, but at a value of £ 110 is a consideration as there are plenty of other jerseys out there of the same quality. for less.
